Abstract This paper investigates the spatial distribution of social services FDI in China. According to the spatial pattern by the data of 2011, it shows a zonality feature in the distribution. Therefore, we use the spatial autocorrelation analysis method to explore the feature of spatial distribution for social services FDI in China, under the provincial data of 2004 to 2011. We have found that:Firstly, most provinces of China show an increasing trend in social services FDI, while the eastern areas play an important role in the increasing. And basically, the special distribution of social services FDI shows a zonal pattern. But, though the zonal pattern of social services FDI is broadly consistent with that of economic zonality, there are some developed regions in eastern areas have low social services FDI while the less developed regions in middle areas have high social services FDI. Secondly, there is positive spatial correlation of social services FDI but not significant, and the degree of concentrate is lower than that of producer services FDI. Thirdly, the hot zone originated in the Yangtze River Delta region. In the recent years, the number of province that shows positive spatial correlation is increasing and the FDI growth gap among regions has enlarged, and polarization effect of east central coast and the Yangtze River Delta provinces has strengthened. Fourthly, the developed regions show more and more advantage in attracting FDI to social services industry gradually, and create the distance with the surrounding regions. Fifthly, policy with related implement instruction, developing level of the region and feature of social services industry are all have effect on the distribution of social services FDI, they can explain the spatial status to some extent. Based on the data, it shows an increasing trend of FDI in social services within China. With the accelerated pace of globalization, the improvement of opening up level after China's accession to WTO, and the diversified demand for social services, it can be forecasted that FDI flowing into social services will keep in a relatively high speed.
